I’m starting a reading series based off of this site name. The goal is to feature a variety of poets and writers but with a focus on LGBTQ people of color and black women. This event is the first in the series, a place where black women poets will come to share their stories of sexual assault. We will talk back against the overwhelming narrative that black women aren’t believable, that we deserve the abuse we’ve suffered.
Join us April 20th at the Black Cat Market in Pittsburgh, starting at 7pm
April 5th at Mr. Roboto Project
Join us in welcoming Mike Young's The Blue Turn tour, featuring some poems and songs, as well as a treasure chest in which to trade your art for art from other cities. BYO woes--quite literally, Mike is collecting a bucket of them on his travels. You can add your woe to the bucket, or borrow one as you see fit. Also featuring incendiary former and current Pittsburghers Atom Atkinson and Dani Janae, whose work will startle you and love you and bring you home.
XOXO, your host Sarah Elaine Smith

On the sixth night of Hanukah we gather to support one another and promote a vision of safety for all communities, refusing to accept racial profiling, antisemitic and anti-immigrant practices and policies or institutions that uphold them.
We invite you to celebrate with the Pittsburgh Coalition to End the Deadly Exchange as we announce our call to action with a ritual menorah lighting, and enjoy some food and entertainment.
